Born in Adelaide, Maurice commenced his apprenticeship in 1981 under the tutelage of his German-born father Manfred Lorenz, Master Jeweller and one of the founding members of the Goldsmith’s Guild of South Australia. Maurice learnt from his father the traditional techniques of Goldsmithing and continues to use these skills today. Maurice also practises the specialised skill of Optical Diamond Setting. He had the opportunity to refine his skills in Antwerp, Belgium with the guidance of Alexandre Sidorov – renowned world master of Diamond Setting. It was during his time in the diamond capital that Maurice developed his knowledge of and skill in the European standard of stone setting. Maurice’s pursuit of professional development ensures that he can implement techniques that contribute to the manufacture of quality product. Maurice is also a Full Member of the Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia. It gives Maurice great satisfaction to hear people’s stories and translate those special memories into wearable pieces.
